Why are hotels adding bike shelters?

A guest travelling by e-bike needs to charge the battery overnight. Without a designated spot, they do it wherever there's a socket: in the room, in the corridor, or by asking the front desk for an extension cord.

Booking platforms, including Booking.com, let you flag bike-friendly amenities — bike storage and e-bike charging. If a property doesn't flag them, it won't show up in results filtered by those amenities.

The cycling season in Poland typically runs from April to October; the shelter keeps working outside it, with less traffic.

Charging outside the room

Dedicated charging points instead of an extension cord in the room or corridor. The bike stays under cover, and the session ends automatically once the battery is charged.

Certifications and quality marks

Covered charging points can count toward BREEAM In-Use, Green Key and "Bike-Friendly Place" criteria. An assessor or the programme operator confirms qualification — see the breakdown on the certifications page.

How does the ChargeGo solar bike shelter work at a hotel?

Guests use the shelter independently. The front desk doesn't hand out or collect anything, and a charging session can be started at any time.

    The guest rides up to the shelter

    They park the bike in one of the covered charging points — 10 in the open shelter, or 3 or 6 in the lockable shelter. The structure has LED lighting with a dusk sensor, so it also works after dark.

    They scan the QR code at the charging point

    Each charging point has a unique QR code. Scanning it opens the ChargeGo app (or a web page, if the app isn't installed).

    They confirm the charging point

    The app opens on the charging point behind that QR code, with no front-desk paperwork. Access can be open to everyone or limited to hotel guests, set in the admin panel.

    They start charging

    One tap in the app switches on the 230 V socket. The shelter measures the power draw and switches off automatically when charging finishes.

    They come back for a charged bike

    The app sends a notification when charging ends. The guest comes back and picks up the bike — no contact with the front desk.

Keeps working offline if the internet drops

The shelter's controller runs and meters on site. If the connection is lost, remote monitoring and control are temporarily unavailable, but charging continues locally. Sessions sync once the connection is back.

No grid electricity cost in standalone mode

In the standalone configuration the shelter draws no power from the grid, so a charging session adds no energy cost. Solar panels and battery are part of the unit price.

Self-service for guests

The front desk doesn't hand out or collect anything and doesn't need to supervise charging. Access rights are set once, in the admin panel.

24/7, even in winter

The heated LFP battery lets the shelter run down to −20 °C, so February guests get the same service as July guests.

Guest-only access

In the admin panel you set whether charging points stay open to everyone or are restricted to hotel guests.

Do guests use the shelter without front-desk involvement?+

Yes. The guest scans the QR code at the charging point they have picked and starts charging from the app. The front desk doesn't hand out cards or keys. A session can be started at any time.

How much does a bike shelter for a hotel cost?+

The price depends on the shelter type, number of charging points, solar and battery capacity, and optional equipment such as a camera, touchscreen or hotel branding. The open shelter with 10 charging points starts at €18,500 excl. VAT. The lockable shelter starts at €23,500 excl. VAT for 3 charging points and €32,500 excl. VAT for 6. Larger properties can order multiple units. We prepare an individual quote within 1–2 business days.

Can I put the hotel's logo on the shelter?+

Yes. The steel structure is powder-coated, so the colour can match the hotel's brand identity. The touchscreen supports branding (logo, colours, custom messages). The logo can also be printed on the battery enclosure.

Does the shelter need a connection to the hotel's electrical grid?+

No. The ChargeGo solar bike shelter runs autonomously on roof solar panels and an LFP battery. A 230 V hotel connection can be added as a hybrid mode for extra power in winter; the fully autonomous installation is the standard.

How long does installation take at a hotel?+

The installation itself, on a prepared foundation, takes 1–2 days. Most of the time goes into paperwork (a permit or notification, if required) and manufacturing the structure. The total time from order to commissioning is usually 8–12 weeks.

Questions hotel managers ask

A typical ChargeGo installation (the shelter with 10 charging points, or the lockable shelter with 3 or 6 charging points): 1–2 business days plus 1–2 days for the foundation, depending on the ground. We usually do this off-season (November–February) — shorter days, less demand on popular sites. For a hotel with a summer season, we recommend installing in March to have the shelter running before the cycling season.
