Right now the battery gets charged wherever there's a free outlet: in a dorm room, in the department corridor, off an extension cord in the bike room. The university may have no visibility into who is charging, how much power is being used or which circuit supplies it.

We provide a dedicated, managed installation — its own circuit, a limit and metering at every charging point, and access granted by name.

A wall-mounted station. No structure or foundation to build — the unit mounts on the wall of a room where the bikes already are.

ChargeGo Shelter

Campus grounds, the entrance to the main building, the square in front of a dorm, a tech park.

A freestanding structure with solar panels on the roof and a battery. It runs with no grid connection, so there's no need to run power to the middle of campus.

  • An open shelter with 10 charging points, or a lockable variant with doors and locks — 3 or 6 charging points
  • 1.74–3.48 kWp of solar panels and an LFP battery of about 1.8–6 kWh; runs off-grid or in hybrid mode
  • 230 V Schuko sockets with power metering at every charging point; going over the set threshold disconnects just that one charging point. Total power drawn across all charging points is capped by a 3,000 VA inverter

A campus can use both solutions: the Box in bike rooms and garages, and the Shelter by buildings, dorms, or sports facilities.

A Box in the dorm, a shelter by the main building

Dorm residents' bikes are kept in the bike room, so the ChargeGo Box goes there: a wall and a locked room are already in place. Bikes of people commuting from the city stay outdoors at the entrance to the teaching building, so the shelter goes there and needs no grid connection. A single panel covers both units, so the university does not run two separate systems. You can start with one dorm and add locations later.

1.74–3.48 kWp of solar panels and an LFP battery let you place charging points in the middle of the campus grounds without running a cable or increasing the building's connected load. It operates from −20 °C to +45 °C, with the battery heated by the BMS.

Cycling infrastructure for students and staff counts towards BREEAM (Tra), LEED (LT — Bicycle Facilities) and ActiveScore. Both lines address the bike-facility criteria; the shelter also adds a renewable energy source.

Usage is metered separately at each charging point, sessions are tied to a user, and the history is kept in the panel. These data can be used in university reporting and grant applications.

There's usually no grid connection at the parking space on these sites — that's when the shelter fits, because it has its own power. If bikes are kept in a hall, the wall-mounted Box is the right choice.

Access, the app, and billing

Both lines

The software layer is shared across both lines — a dorm with a Box and a campus with a shelter are managed from the same panel.

The app, QR code, and panel
The user starts charging from the mobile app or by scanning the QR code at the charging point. The university's administrator grants and revokes access on their own in the panel, with no need to contact support. If the connection drops, the unit keeps working locally.
Usage and session history
Energy is metered separately at each charging point, and every session is tied to a specific user. Pick a model: free, billed by kWh used, or a flat fee per session.
A note on the paperwork: the energy metering is there for reporting and enforcing limits, so billing users rests on the university's own rules, not on readings from a legally certified meter.

Integration with the university's own access-control system (a student ID card, for example) is worked out individually with the IT department — we confirm the scope before quoting.

Certifications and programmes for universities

If a university building is certified under BREEAM or LEED, the bike-facility criteria can be addressed by either line — a Box in the building's bike room, and a shelter on the grounds. Only the shelter contributes a renewable energy source, since it is the only one with solar panels and a battery. The project's assessor confirms the actual score.

Questions from campus estates teams

The ChargeGo Box: a wall-mounted station with eight charging points from a single 230 V / 16 A circuit, which we run if there isn't one. Each charging point has a 2 A (about 460 W) limit enforced electronically — going over it disconnects that one charging point and flags it in the app, while the others keep charging. The unit measures 770 × 450 × 160 mm, comes in white as standard, and needs only a wall.
